The City of Long Beach Department of Parks and Recreation located at 700 Magnolia Blvd. oversees the activities of the Beach Park and the Recreation Center.
With dozens of sports and program offerings available for Long Beach residents, it is the main source of activities in our community. The Recreation Center, although damaged by Superstorm Sandy, includes a newly renovated weight and fitness center and Olympic-size indoor swimming pool and dive pool with a one-meter board and two steam rooms (to re-open late this summer). The Recreation Center's campus includes an indoor ice arena, a fishing pier, bayfront boardwalk, turf fields with two baseball/softball diamonds, roller hockey rink, basketball court, fitness trail, dog run, skateboard park and a boat ramp with ample parking available. Beach passes can be purchased at the Gazebo located near the Children's Park and Ice Arena. For complete details on obtaining season Beach Passes, when passes are required and so much more, visit longbeachny.gov/beach.
In the summer, the Recreation Department kicks off the Summer Season with The City Manager's 10 Mile Trophy Run, holds the end of school Memorial Sean Ryan 5K Run, and ends the Summer Labor Day weekend with the Robert C. McAvoy 5 mile Run. While there is a competitive component in all of these races, these runs are for anyone who has prepared themselves. See longbeachny.gov/rec to sign up or get more information on these races!
The popular Recreation Summer Camp Program will return again this year (see below). There are also events too numerous to mention and added frequently, so be sure to check the calendar at longbeachny.gov/rec every day to make sure you don't miss anything.
