Village Board of Trustees
The next work session will be held on Monday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Unclaimed funds
Michael Caplice, the Long Island representative from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's office, announced that there are more than 11,700 claims owed to Valley Stream residents alone. He will be at the Village Hall on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. to help residents determine if they are owed money.
Planning Board
A public hearing will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. The planning board will consider the case of Alex Rivero who seeks to build a new home at 30 Lois Place.
Architectural Review Board
The next meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall board room.
Movie at Village Hall
"Wall-E" will be shown in the Village Hall court room on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Free tickets will be available at the Hendrickson Park administration building one week before the showing. For more information call (516) 825-8570.
Exercise Program
The Valley Stream Recreation Department's exercise program at Fireman's Field begins on Feb. 2. The program consists 20, one-hour sessions on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. The focus of the class is to improve cardiovascular endurance, strengthen major muscle groups and increase bone mass. Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature will hold its next meeting on Monday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.
LIPA meeting
The Assembly Republicans will be holding a public hearing regarding the Long Island Power Authority on Friday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will take place at the Lynbrook Village Hall, 1 Columbus Drive.

Young adult nights
The library will hold a youth video games night on Friday, Jan. 30. Games will include Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution and more. A teen Valentine's Day party will be held on Friday, Feb. 13. Both programs are open to students in grades 6-12 and begin at 6:30 p.m.
Computer classes
The library will hold three computer classes on Saturday, Feb. 7. Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. A Microsoft Word Basics class is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and a class on Microsoft Excel Basics will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Children's Room

Valley Stream Book Club
This month's selection is "Suite Francaise" by Irene Nemmeets. A discussion will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the children's room.
Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.
Live homework help
Families with young children, and adults seeking to support their studies or improve their math or grammar skills, have access to experts waiting to help through the library's Web site. Sign Language Program
A mother and child sign language program will be held on Fridays, Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and 12 at 10:30 a.m. There will be a program for babies age 9-18 months, and for children 18 months to 3 years. Toddlers will learn American Sign Language and enhance their communication skills while having fun reading books, learning songs and doing an art activity.
Legal issues for seniors
A program for seniors will be held on Friday, Jan. 30 at 12:30 p.m. covering cusses various legal topics including wills, living wills, health care proxies and durable powers of attorney. Ida Epstein will show the attendees how they can get the guidance they need for their questions and concerns.
Black History Month
A tribute to black entertainment and history with BiLlee T. and Marcia Pharr Thomas will be held on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. in the theater. Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Tuskegee Airman, James Graham and Lorenzo A. Dufau, and master comic C.P. Lacey will be honored. Admission is free.
Pay your taxes
The Town of Hempstead's Mobile Tax Office will be in the library parking lot on Monday, Feb. 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday Feature Film
"Jack and Jill vs. the World" will be show on Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13.
Teen Advisory Group
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. Help select the programs, books, music and other materials the library has to offer for teen.
Chair Exercise
The next class will be held on Friday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. It will be led by instructor Millie Danko.
Bridge With Mimi
Intermediate level classes are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner's class - you must have experience in playing the game.

Look Good, Feel Better
This free program to teach women how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer will be held on Monday, Feb. 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Franklin Hospital's Shankman Auditorium. Professional cosmetologists will teach special techniques to minimize the effects of skin changes and hair loss. Complimentary cosmetic kits will be provided to each participant.
