The board will hold its next meeting budget meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24 in the Malverne High School library at 8 p.m. The board's next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 10 in the Malverne High School library at 8 p.m. This is also a budget review meeting.
West Hempstead Board
of Education
The board will hold its next business meeting on Tuesday, March 3 in the West Hempstead High School video conference room at 7:30 p.m. This will be a non-instructional items budget workshop meeting. The board's instructional program budget workshop will be held on March 10 in the high school's video conference room at 7:30 p.m.
Valley Stream District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at James A. Dever School at 8 p.m.
Malverne Village Board
The board will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, March 4 at Village Hall at 7:30 p.m.
MOM meeting
The Mothers of Malverne will hold its next meeting on Thursday, March 5 at Malverne Village Hall at 7:30 p.m. The group meets monthly from September to June to provide a social and support network for mothers of young children as well as events for kids.

Classic Movie Night
The Malverne Historical and Preservation Society will host a Classic Movie Night on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. The movie "Dinner at Eight," starring Marie Dressler and John Barrymore, will be shown.
Blood drive
The Malverne Jewish Center will host a Blood Drive on Sunday, Feb. 22. Come to the center, located at 1 Norwood Ave., to donate. For more information, call (516) 481-1098.
Food drive
The West Hempstead and Franklin Square Association of Girl Scouts will host its 13th annual Community Food Drive from Feb. 23 through March 15. The drop off locations in West Hempstead: are West Hempstead Public Library, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Capital One Bank on Hempstead Avenue and Capital One Bank on Hempstead Turnpike.
Talent Show tryouts
Come and tryout for the St. Thomas the Apostle School's Adult Talent Show. Anyone over 18 who can sing, dance, play a musical instrument, perform a stand up comedian act or has talent is encouraged to tryout. Charity event
Profusion will host its second annual charity event on March 26 at the Westbury Manor in Jericho from 6 to 10 p.m. This event will include a reception, dancing, silent memorabilia auction, Chinese auctions and more. Alex Jacobson, president of the Lakewood Stables in West Hempstead, is one of this year's honorees. Proceeds will benefit The Long Island Breakfast Club and The Center for Hope at Schneider Children's Hospital. Tickets are $75 per person. Matinee Movie
An afternoon movie will be shown every Monday at 2 p.m. "The Women" will be shown on Feb. 23, "Swing Vote" will be shown on March 2 and "The Dark Knight" will be shown on March 9.
Paint a Penguin
A Paint a Penguin program will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade can come to the library to paint a ceramic penguin pencil holder. The cost is $5.
Jump for Joy
A Jump for Joy program will be held on Fridays, Feb. 20, 27 and March 6, 13 and 27. Come to the library to enjoy music and movement with your child. Session one for kids 18 to 36 months will be from 10:15 to 11 a.m. and session two for kids 18 months to 5 will be from 11:15 a.m. to noon. The cost is $30.
Learn about Microsoft Word
An Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007 class will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. Learn how to create, save, edit and format documents. The cost is $10.
Storytime
A Pre School Storytime for 3 1/2 to 5 years will be held on Mondays, Feb. 23 and March 2, 9, 16 and 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Computer class
A Computer 1st Grade for Grownups class will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. In this workshop, you will learn how to work with text including inputting, inserting, moving and erasing, learn basic word processing skills and understand files and commands. The cost is $10.
Learn about space
A Living in Space program for kids in first through fifth grade will be held on Wednesday, March 4 from 4 to 4:30 p.m.
Chocolate workshop
A Chocolate Covered Everything Workshop for teens in sixth through 12 grade will be held on Monday, March 9 from 7 to 8 p.m. Come dip pretzels, popcorn, Oreos and more into rich chocolate for a snack.
Story and craft
A K-2nd Grade Story and Craft program will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Kids can come listen to some great stories at the library and make a small craft.

Tax help for senior citizens
An AARP Tax Help class will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers will assist low-income senior citizens in preparing simple tax returns. To schedule an appointment, please call the library's Reference Desk.

A Computer 4th Grade program will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of Microsoft Excel. The cost is $10.
Knit and Crochet
Come to the library to learn how to Knit and Crochet on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. The cost is $1.
