Fair Raising funds for new Camp Anchor building

The purpose of the event was to raise funds for the construction of a new permanent facility in Lido Beach. They raised $8,000. "It was a great night of fun," said Event Coordinator Kevin Christenson. "There was a lot of love in the room...everyone had a great time."
Anchor is a year-round camp for children with disabilities. Founded in 1968, the program grew from an after school program servicing 50 children to a year round program with over 1,000 participants that include children and young adults.
Presently, the program consists of a six week summer day camp program servicing 650 participants, located on the ocean at Lido Beach. The program is offered Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation is provided by the Town of Hempstead.
For many years the program director, staff and parents have sought to have a building erected to house the various programs at Lido Beach site. The funds have not been available through the regular Town of Hempstead budget.
Rotary District 7250 has put together a committee of concerned individuals - including architect, engineer, and various contractors - who will dedicate their expertise to resolving this problem. Rotary has commissioned the design of a 13,500 square foot building which will house a gym, a stage, a kitchen and dining area, a computer room, handicapped accessible toilets, several general purpose rooms, a nurses station and several offices. The estimated cost of this structure is $1.5 million
