Registration for the Rockville Centre Little League
2009 season will take place at the Rockville Centre Recreation Center at 111 N.Oceanside Road on the following dates and times:

Jan 14 6:30 p.m. -9 p.m.
Jan 17 is LATE REGISTRATION DAY, from 9a.m .- noon. There will be a $25 additional late registration fee per family.
All first-time registrations must be accompanied by a copy of the player's birth certificate. Mothers and fathers who are interested in coaching should bring a copy of their drivers license.

Fortnightly Club Forum
On Jan. 13, the Fortnightly Club will host a forum featuring Professor Collette Mazzaucelli, MALD, Ph.D. from Molloy College's History and Political Science Department. The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Hempstead Avenue.

is an organization that coordinates the donation of used (but in good condition) furniture and other household items with less fortunate families that are in need of those items. Roll around play days
The Roll-Around set-up will be available 9:15-10a.m. for children ages 1-4 on Jan, 2 & 3. of the holiday recess. Parents must accompany children . The fee is $7.00 per family per session. No pre-registration is required. Please -No older children.
Computertots
This program offers extraordinary computer education classes in which children will learn computer terminology and use. Children work on the computer in small groups with early childhood computer teachers and use a variety of exciting software and peripherals, such as a digital camera and a computer microscope. Children will develop self-confidence by using the computer as a tool for learning. Classes begin in January and run once a week. The classes are geared for ages 3-5 and run for 30 minutes. Mondays after school:
"Build Something Cool That Moves" Join the group as they explore, investigate and solve problems while learning about the building blocks of engineering - simple machines. This exciting hands-on engineering class uses Lego Education materials to explore motorized simple machines by building realistic models. Students work in pairs to creatively solve challenges, using concepts learned in class. This class is for children in 2nd-4th grades. Note: No computers are used for this class.
Tuesdays after school:
Crime Scene Investigation Use logic, senses and forensic science to solve crimes. Learn how to work the field scene and the laboratory end of CSI. Students will use finger painting, tire tread patterns and more. Each lesson will focus on a new forensic skill which will lead to solving a final investigation. No blood, no gore... but excitement galore. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.
Totally Technology Build skills
create projects and have fun, too. Students will be introduced to a variety of technology programs and learn important technology skills, such as graphics, programming, the digital microscope and robotics, as they create their own projects and conquer the age of technology. This class is geared for students in grades K-2.

Video Game Animation
Students will dive into the world of video game animation by creating characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. They'll add sound effects and music clips to create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by the MIT Media Lab. Creativity rules in this fun version of video game design. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.

Open Gym Schedule
Open gym for grades 4 and up began in October. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec. Center. Admission is by valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball Saturday afternoons from 2-4:30 p.m., for grades 4 and up. The evening open gym, for grades 6 and up, is from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.

Aerobic Exercise
Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy's Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.
Square Dancing
With nationally known caller Lee Kopman takes place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7 - 10 p.m. Fee: $5 per person. on-going.

Members meet every Wednesday at 3 p.m. to support each other while discussing weight awareness issues.
Cancer Support Group:
This new group seeks to provide caregivers with information, daily coping and caregiving strategies aimed at improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers. This group is open to RVC residents 60 and over. The group is limited to 10. Please call Rose at 678-9350 to

Sandel Senior Men's Club
meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. for breakfast and business. At 11 a.m., when available, guest speakers discuss topics of interest to men.

Religious events
Special Needs Masses at
St. Agnes Cathedral
These Masses are especially for families with children who have developmental disabilities. Families with special needs children often find it difficult to attend weekly Mass together. These Masses give these families the opportunity to celebrate God's presence in their lives together. Children and adults with special needs will be filling as many liturgy positions as possible. All are invited to come take part in this special liturgy. The Masses are at 5 p.m., in the Lower Hall (which is handicapped accessible) on: Jan. 24, Feb. 28, March 28, April 25 and May 30.

hed: Slam dunk - Knights of Columbus sponsoring annual Free Throw Championship
The Father Joseph O'Connell Council #3481 of Oceanside is sponsoring its annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship this Saturday, Jan. 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the Recreation Center. All boys and girls from 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition (only one competition per child). Winners of the competition progress through local, district and state competitions. International champions are announced by K of C international headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Last year, more than 179,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,000 local competitions nationwide. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. On Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Garden City Hotel, St. Agnes Cathedral School will hold its 2009 Gala Ball. The ball is the school's primary fundraiser of the year. Members of the St. Agnes gala committee had an opportunity to meet the honorees, their dinner chairs, and family members at a cocktail reception on Dec. 4 at the St. Agnes Cathedral Parish Rectory
The gala ball honors individuals who have exhibited their support and commitment to Catholic education. This year's honorees include Rev. Monsignor Robert J. Brennan, who will receive the St. Thomas Aquinas Award, and Eileen Alexanderson, who will receive the Catherine of Siena Award. The gala ball will also recognize Patricia Mayerhofer, who has shown dedicated service to Catholic education as a teacher at St. Agnes Cathedral School for 26 years.
