St. Agnes Cathedral Singers in Concert
in the Holy Cross Chapel on Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Their cantors and choir section leaders combine to sing an
enchanting evening of a cappella music in the 1920s Gothic Chapel of theHoly Cross at 1 Quealy Place. Fortnightly Club Meeting

Empire Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course
will be held at Mercy Medical Center on Feb. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mercy League Lounge located across from the entrance to the hospital's Emergency Department.Upon completion of this course, participants are eligible for 10% off their motor vehicle insurance for three years and/or a reduction of points from their drivers license. Roll around play days
The Roll-Around set-up will be available 9:15-10a.m. for children ages 1-4 on Jan, 2 & 3. of the holiday recess. Parents must accompany children . The fee is $7.00 per family per session. No pre-registration is required. Please -No older children.
Computertots
This program offers extraordinary computer education classes in which children will learn computer terminology and use. Children work on the computer in small groups with early childhood computer teachers and use a variety of exciting software and peripherals, such as a digital camera and a computer microscope. Children will develop self-confidence by using the computer as a tool for learning. Classes begin in January and run once a week. The classes are geared for ages 3-5 and run for 30 minutes. Mondays after school:
"Build Something Cool That Moves" Join the group as they explore, investigate and solve problems while learning about the building blocks of engineering - simple machines. This exciting hands-on engineering class uses Lego Education materials to explore motorized simple machines by building realistic models. Students work in pairs to creatively solve challenges, using concepts learned in class. This class is for children in 2nd-4th grades. Note: No computers are used for this class.
Tuesdays after school:
Crime Scene Investigation Use logic, senses and forensic science to solve crimes. Learn how to work the field scene and the laboratory end of CSI. Students will use finger painting, tire tread patterns and more. Each lesson will focus on a new forensic skill which will lead to solving a final investigation. No blood, no gore... but excitement galore. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.
Totally Technology Build skills
create projects and have fun, too. Students will be introduced to a variety of technology programs and learn important technology skills, such as graphics, programming, the digital microscope and robotics, as they create their own projects and conquer the age of technology. This class is geared for students in grades K-2.

Video Game Animation
Students will dive into the world of video game animation by creating characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. They'll add sound effects and music clips to create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for kids by the MIT Media Lab. Creativity rules in this fun version of video game design. Class is for students in 2nd-4th grades.

Open Gym Schedule
Open gym for grades 4 and up began in October. Open gym is free play basketball in the main gymnasium of the Rec. Center. Admission is by valid recreation card. The gym will be open for basketball Saturday afternoons from 2-4:30 p.m., for grades 4 and up. The evening open gym, for grades 6 and up, is from 7:30 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.

Aerobic Exercise
Aerobics classes are offered by Nancy's Aerobics on Mon., Tues. and Thurs. evenings from 7 p.m to 10 p.m.. Classes are on-going and can be paid for daily ($5 per person). Classes are conducted in the Rec Center gym.
Square Dancing
With nationally known caller Lee Kopman takes place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7 - 10 p.m. Fee: $5 per person. on-going.

Cancer Support Group:
This new group seeks to provide caregivers with information, daily coping and caregiving strategies aimed at improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their caregivers. This group is open to RVC residents 60 and over. The group is limited to 10. Please call Rose at 678-9350 to

Sandel Senior Men's Club
meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. for breakfast and business. At 11 a.m., when available, guest speakers discuss topics of interest to men.

Catholic schools week starts Jan. 25
From Jan. 25 through Jan 30, St. Agnes Cathedral Elementary School will mark Catholic Schools Week 2009. The weeklong celebration will begin in the Cathedral with a 9:30 a.m. Mass on Jan. 25.
Following that is an open house, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., that is open to everyone.
Registration for the St. Agnes Cathedral Elementary School for the 2009-2010 school year will take place on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There are limited openings for grades 1-7, and those residing within the St. Agnes Cathedral Parish will receive priority placement. There are presently no openings for grade 8.
A Baptismal certificate must be presented at the time of registraiton. And an Offertory envelope from the church in which each family is registered also must be presented. There is a $50 non-refundable registration fee for grades 1-8. There is a $150 non-refundable registration fee for kindergarten.
Save lives - donate blood
On Jan. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., South Side Middle School will host its annual blood drive that is open to all staff in the district as well as members of the community. Teacher Darcy Gilchrist has been working closely with Diane Robinson from the blood center, and fellow teachers Melanie Rubin, Michelle Ebel, Antoinette Rosolino, Kerry Toomey, Josephine Bishop, Patricia Montemarano, Lindsay Monheit and Ryan McDermott to organize the event. Student council volunteers will be on hand to help direct traffic and hand out refreshments.

Help in preventing foreclosures
The Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre is announcing a new program of free foreclosure prevention and intervention services. Attorneys are available to assist homeowners. If you're in danger of losing your home due to an increase in your adjustable mortgage rate, if you need help or advice with pre-foreclosure and if you have been served with foreclosure papers from the court, you're advised not to wait until it's too late. Free legal services, including counseling, mediation, representation and court-based services are provided if necessary.The first workshop on preventing foreclosure will be held at the Hispanic Brotherhood's office at 59 Clinton Ave. on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. For more information, call Glenda or Elena at (516) 766-6610.
