Balaram Stack, the 20-year-old hometown surf ambassador for Long Beach, and one of twenty-four professionals scheduled to compete within the second round of the Quiksilver Pro New York on Wednesday, was eliminated after losing to two-time ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Tour victor, Mick Fanning.

Stack, who encountered Fanning in the second round's first heat, scored 3.83 and 3.23, for a heat total of 7.06. Fanning, a native of Australia, compiled a score of 15.20, with top heats of 7.83 and 7.37. He will now advance to the competition's third round.

"I just couldn't get the right wave," said Stack, who was named the first wildcard contestant for Quiksilver Pro New York in July. "But it was fun being part of this in my hometown, with everyone watching."

Stack was one of two wildcard surfers to compete in the first-ever ASP World Tour stop on the East Coast. Asher Nolan, who earned the second wildcard bid after winning the Quiksilver Pro New York ASP World Tour Unsound Trials on Sunday, was defeated by Owen Wright (14.07 to 11.33). 

When asked about his future plans, Stack hopes to "stay home for a couple of weeks, and see the next couple of swells along the East Coast."
