Board of Trustees
The village board will hold its next regular business meeting on Monday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.

Movies at Village Hall
"Horton Hears a Who" will be shown in the Village Hall court room on Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. Free tickets will be available at the Hendrickson Park administration building one week before the showing.

County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature has scheduled its next meeting on Monday, March 9 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.
Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.

Computer basics
Three computer classes will be offered on Saturday, March 7. Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Microsoft Word Basics from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and Microsoft Excel Basics from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Teen Tech Week
Teen volunteers will demonstrate how to use various technology at a Teen Tech Showcase on Saturday, March 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. Demonstrations will include how to use an iPod, play Nintendo Wii and download photos from a digital camera. Volunteer experts, from grades 6-12, are still needed and can receive community service credit. For more information, contact young adult librarian Faith Kenney or Director Mamie Eng.
Library Board
The board of trustees will meet on Wednesday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public; ring bell at children's room entrance for admittance.
Musical Diversity series
"Duets in American Music" will be presented on Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m. This program is for children ages 5 and up with parent. Celebrate the diversity of America with selections including folk-tunes, spirituals, Sousa marches and jazz. Tickets are required for the performance and are available in the children's room on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Teen games night
A young adult video games night will be held on Friday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 will play Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero and more. There will be treats and small prizes. Registration is required.
Book Club
The group will next meet on Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the children's room. The book to be discussed is "Ironweed" by William Kennedy.
AARP Senior Tax Aide
Tax help will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday through April 14. Be sure to bring your W-2 form, all relevant bank and financial statements, 2008 tax forms and a copy of your 2007 tax return.
Children's Room
There are a wide variety of programs scheduled for March 2009 with Children's Librarian Jaclyn Kunz including Bouncing Babies, Alphabet Soup, Story Craft programs and other seasonal events. Registration is required for all programs with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders.
Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

The next meeting will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 2 p.m. Help select workshops, books, music and other materials the library offers for teens.
Babies in Motion
Enjoy movement, fingerplays and popular children's songs on Monday, March 9 at 10:15 a.m. This program is for babies age 6 months-2 years old with a participating adult.

The next class with Cathy Anastasio will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 10 a.m.
Tuesday feature film
"The Counterfeiters" will be shown on March 10 at 2 p.m. The movie is rated R.
Caregivers Support Group
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 3 p.m. Discussion will be led by Sari Flesch.
Teen dance program
A hip-hop dance workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dance as instructor Laura Haley from Tip Tap Toe Dance Studio teaches the basic steps.
Poetry writing
A workshop with author Dr. Linda Opyr will be held on Wednesday, March 11 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to write poetry and share their work.
Money Merge seminar
Joe Spallino will discuss money merge accounts on Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m. This is an approach which will allow homeowners to get out of their existing mortgage in less time with little or no change to their current lifestyle.
Tax help for seniors
Free tax help will be offered by the Town of Hempstead every Monday from noon to 3 p.m. A tax preparation program offered by Hofstra University will be held every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Book Discussion
Librarian Anthony Grimaldi will lead a discussion of "The Children's Story" by James Clavell on Monday, March 23 at 2 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served.
Bridge With Mimi
Intermediate level classes are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner's class - you must have experience in playing the game.

Central High School District
The Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, March 10 at 8 p.m. at Memorial Junior High School.
Legislative Breakfast
The Valley Stream Council of PTAs will host its annual legislative breakfast on Saturday, March 14 at 9 a.m. at Memorial Junior High School. Confirmed participants are Mayor Ed Cahill, Councilman Ed Ambrosino, Legislator John Ciotti, Assemblyman Harvey Weisenerg and Sen. Dean Skelos. The event is free.
District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next work session on Monday, March 16 and its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, March 24. Both meetings will be held at the James A. Dever School at 8 p.m.
District 24
The Board of Education will hold its next work session on Thursday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. A work session will also be held on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. followed by the regular business meeting at 8:30. All meetings are at the William L. Buck School.
District 30
The Board of Education will hold its next work session on Monday, March 16 and its next regular business meeting on Monday, March 23. Both meetings will be held in the Shaw Avenue School library at 8 p.m.
Blessed Sacrament School

Ask the Nutritionist
Alexandra Sasha Averko, a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, will speak at the Elmont Library on Wednesday, March 11 at 11 a.m. The topic will be "Let Them Eat Beans," focusing on the health benefits of beans and legumes. Recipes will be shared.
Health Assessments
Nurse June Friedel will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring at the Elmont Library on Thursday, March 19 at 10 a.m. She will also be available to answer individual questions and for one-on-one counseling.

Overeaters Anonymous can help with its no dues, no fees and no weigh-ins program. AHRC Auxiliary brunch
The North Woodmere-Valley Stream Auxiliary of AHRC Nassau will host a St. Patrick's Day brunch on Sunday, March 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Cannon's BlackThorn, 49 N. Village Ave. in Rockville Centre. There is a donation of $30 per adult and $20 per child which will benefit children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. AARP Chapter 2686

Historical Society
Judge Robert Bogle will give a historical perspective of the New York State village justice system on Thursday, March 19 at 8 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by the Valley Stream Historical Society and will be held at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall, Brooklyn Avenue and Seventh Street. American Legion
Andrew Fatscher Post 854 will hold a St. Patrick's dance on Saturday, March 21 from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be a corned beef and cabbage dinner, free wine and beer and a cash bar.
