Westbury's own Obama?

But for Legis. Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) and his family, Tuesday should be extra special. The legislator's son, Joshua Corbin, 25, has been named to a selective group of individuals who will be honored at the Long Island Inaugural Ball on Tuesday at The Carltun at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
The timing of the recognition could not be any more fitting for Josh Corbin, which family and friends believe could provide a hint for the young community leader's future.
"We call him the young Obama of Long Island," Legis. Corbin said.
Josh Corbin, the youngest of four, was the only child in the family to express an interest in the political process, his father said. As a result, the longtime legislator from Westbury made it a point to take his son to various governmental and political functions, and expose him to the life of an elected official.
Roger Corbin knew that government and politics were in his son's future even when Josh was a teenager. As a delegate for the Democratic Party in 2000, Roger took his family for the convention in Los Angeles. While other family members vacationed and enjoyed what the city had to offer, Josh was more interested in what his father was doing.
Since his childhood, Josh Corbin has been attuned to issues, and had been an advocate for local causes, his father said. In addition to his exposure to local government and politics, Josh Corbin is known to be highly visible within the community. He volunteers for several organizations that help the poor and the elderly and is active in the Economic Opportunity Commission (EOC).
Josh Corbin, who was raised in Westbury and continues to live there, attended Westbury schools as a child and graduated high school at Long Island Lutheran. He graduated from Iona College with a degree in government and politics, and plans to attend law school in the near future.
"He is really excited about helping people," said Roger Corbin. "I am glad that he has the sense of wanting to do something for the good of mankind and that is what really drives him."
