Five Centuries of Art: Selections from the Permanent Collection
An exhibit that spans the breadth of Heckscher Museum’s Permanent Collection of paintings. Rediscovering Slobodkina: A Pioneer of American Abstraction

Robert Rauschenberg and His Contemporaries: Recent Prints from Universal Limited Art Editions
An homage to the artist, who died in May 2008. The exhibit features examples from Rauschenberg’s last print series, titled The Lotus Series, with imagery drawn from contemporary China, a favorite destination of the artist. Jasper Johns’ enigmatic style will be represented by many recent examples of his work. Two beautiful recent lithographs by Helen Frankenthaler will also be included . A photogravure by Chuck Close and a lithograph by James Rosenquist will be featured as well. Long Island Collects
The outstanding holdings of several Long Island art collectors, are presented in this exhibit. The important art movements included are Impressionism (exemplified by Cezanne, Renoir and Pisarro), Modernism (exemplified by Picasso and de Chirico) and Post-War American Art (exemplified by Larry Rivers, Jim Dine and Cindy Sherman). Out Of Africa
An exhibit that highlights the relationship between function and form while revealing important insights into African artistic expression. Artifacts include headdresses, weapons, tools and figurative sculptures from nine countries located in western and central Africa. All pieces represent Sub-Saharan cultures and enable visitors to appreciate their aesthetic value in relation to their original functions. Through Mar. 15. Poetic Journey: Hudson River Paintings from the Grey Collection
The Hudson River school paintings are featured in this exhibit, in conjunction with Long Island Collects, which marks the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of what came to be called the Hudson River. Immersion Dance Company
Immersion will be holding auditions for 3-4 female dancers for a long term commitment. Requirements include strong technique, individual presence, versatility in terms of dance styles (mostly modern and contemporary), and a strong background in improv and partnering. Dancers must be able to rehearse and understudy with potential to perform. Rehearsals will begin Sunday, Apr. 5. The audition will take place Saturday, Feb. 21, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Location is A Place to Dance, 55-19 69th St., in Maspeth. A resume is required.
